Tattoo Aftercare Guide
Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully and lasts a lifetime.
Immediate Aftercare (First 24–48 Hours)
- Leave the second skin / saniderm / cling wrap on for the exact time I recommended (usually 3–5 days).
- If it starts to leak, smell, or lift excessively, remove it gently in the shower and wash the tattoo.
- Do not peel or pick at the wrap.
Daily Cleaning (Days 1–14)
Wash your tattoo 2–3 times per day with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, antibacterial soap (e.g. Dial Gold or Cetaphil). Gently pat dry with a clean paper towel — do not rub.
Moisturising
Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturiser (Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion or similar) 2–3 times per day. Less is more — a thick layer can clog pores and slow healing.
What to Avoid (Critical)
- No swimming, baths, saunas, or hot tubs for at least 2 weeks.
- No direct sunlight or tanning beds.
- No picking, scratching, or peeling scabs.
- No tight clothing that rubs the area.
- No alcohol or excessive exercise that causes heavy sweating for the first 5–7 days.
What to Expect During Healing
- Days 1–3: Swelling, redness, and some oozing is normal.
- Days 4–7: Itching and peeling (like a sunburn). Do not scratch.
- Days 8–14: New skin forms — the tattoo may look dull or hazy at first.
- Full healing (including colour settling) can take 4–6 weeks.
Long-Term Care
- Once fully healed, apply sunscreen (SPF 30+) daily to protect the colours and prevent fading.
- Keep the area moisturised to maintain vibrancy over time.
- If you notice any unusual redness, swelling, pus, or fever after the first week, contact me or your doctor immediately.
